How Do You Live?

Recently, I wrote a letter very similar to this to a dear friend.  Although I originally planned to have the letter be something unique to her, it contained such a important concept that I wanted to share it here.  Please read, and share.

Dear Friend,

Live with an Eternal Purpose.

(gasp!) No, it really is not that mind-blowing, but it is something that I think is grossly underestimated.  Although I am not a perfect example (not even a very good example) of living with an eternal purpose, it is something that God has put on my heart both for my life and for others.

So what does living with an eternal purpose look like?  How do we model it in everyday life? I firmly believe that it is simply another way to say, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and His Purpose.  We live in the moment, only seeing what’s right in front of us.  This is why the silliest arguments and the littlest mistakes make a huge impact.  But when we look at our own lives and the current situation through Jesus’ eyes, we see the importance of it all.  Relationships are richer, experiences are more memorable, mistakes become less important and Jesus becomes fixed in the center when we see life through His eyes.  He uses every situation to grow your trust in Him, and to make His glory known.

Often times, we miss it.  We miss the opportunity to see His majesty, to love well and live abundantly.  Don’t miss it.  I have wasted so much time missing out on God’s heavenly purpose.  I know from personal experience that the things that are the most important in the moment are nothing in comparison to the glorious call of Jesus.  Whether you are having the best or the worst day, see life how God sees it. Don’t miss it.

On that day, when we stand in the presence of God, all the things of this world will fall away, and we will be satisfied in Him.

Live with an Eternal Purpose, it’ll change your life.

Just a Time as This

Have you ever wondered, is this really all I’m made for?

Have you ever questioned God, is this really it?

Many times throughout my life I have wondered and questioned the same things.  Many times I have longed for something more for my life.  I wish I had more time for ministry, I wish I had more time to serve God. I have often been envious of those who seem to have time to invest in every perfect ministry.  They seemed to have the serving God thing down.

When finishing my boatload of school for the week is all I can manage, when it seems I’m always, always busy, these are the times when I cry out, Don’t you have more for me?

These are the times when I feel useless.  These are the times when I feel imperfect, not good enough.  I want to do something more, yet I feel as though whatever I do will not be good enough.

Have you ever felt this way?

It is in the moments, these imperfect moments that God calls me, Yes, I made you for this.  Yes, I chose you for this.

And in these times, I sometimes respond, really?

The truth is, yes really.  Wherever God has placed me, that’s where he wants me.  Wherever He has put me, that’s where He’ll use me.  Though I may not be raising money for cancer research or supporting a family in Africa (two very good things I assure you), I am here doing what God has for me.  Sure, completing Algebra lessons and learning about genetics may not be glamorous, but there is purpose in it all.  Right now, God is just teaching me to trust, This is where I want you.

Later on, I may be doing some bigger, grander things, but right now, I am learning to be content where God has me.  Wherever He has put me, that’s where He’ll use me.

During these times, I remind myself this verse: “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

Sure, Esther was doing huge things with God, and the things I do seem tiny in comparison, but the truth remains the same.

God has put you here for such a time as this.

My story of the 300 at 4us!

Hello all!

How is your fall?

It has been a very long time since my last blog post. I assume at this point that any of my readers have probably given up on me by now :).  Well, life kind of got in the way, but I am finally here to give you a summary of the wonderful events that happened this last August 13-15.

In case you have not heard about the 300 or 4us, check out my original post about it here.

Now the fun part!  I get to tell you how it all went!

This event was a blast.  We arrived Thursday morning (early, I might add :), where I was assigned to the team Zulu or Kidzcare!  This was a fun team. I got to spend the day with preschoolers (best people ever!) coloring, playing games and even testing out the bouncy houses for the family fun fest. Other teams did jobs like setting up a concert stage, bouncy house blow-ups, registration, tent set-up, merchandise and food duty (and more!).  After an afternoon of playing with the kiddos (and Chick-fil-a food!) all of the 300 volunteers participated in the first ever Sound and Light games!  We played events like, tricycle relays, blow-up toy races and zip-line battles.  These were so fun!  I hung out with two sweet little boys, ages 7 and 9, who were on my team. Unfortunately, my team placed. . . dead last.  We still had a blast.  The evening finished off with a showing of Mega Mind on the big screen in the field, then off to bed in our tents.

Friday morning, we were greeted with. . . rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  Because we are in the lovely Pacific Northwest, rain is normally not a big problem.  But when you are trying to set up a mega event for thousands of people, rain and wind stop that a little bit. We prayed the rain would stop in time.  In the mean time, we attended the Sound and Light academy, where we heard two great speakers. We heard inspiring talks about how to defend our beliefs about life, how to unmask planned parenthood, and how to get people like you excited for the 300! By lunch time, the rain was blowing all the harder.  At this point, we had to make a decision: continue with the prep for our Luma Glow Fun Run that evening, or cancel the event and disappoint all of the participants.  We decided to continue with the event.  I worked with team Hotel, where we set up big light displays for the Luma Glow Run (the Luma Glow run is where participates run a 5k in the dark, guided by a glow-stick path and glow displays). The rain continued to pour. The run was scheduled at 7 pm, and by 6 pm, it was still raining.  But God does amazing things.  By 6:30, the rain had completely stopped.  It was still fairly cold, but we were ready for this 5k.  It turns out that hundreds of participates still came.  I guess Western Washington runners are not scared of some rain.  The event went off beautifully.

Saturday was the real test, since around 10 events happened that day, not just one.  There was no rain on Saturday, just blue skies. This day was a blast.  I was in charge of a bouncy house at the Family Fun Fest.  I love to see those kid’s faces light up when on a bouncy house!  Other participants completed runs, bike rides etc.  Thousands of people came, the place was packed!  It was so encouraging to see all of those people standing up for life. The day ended with the World’s Largest Squirt Gun Fight.  It was hilarious to see thousands of kids and adults soaking each other in a major battle!  After all the fun, it was time to clean up and go home.

This experience meant so much to me.  I was so encouraged to see not only the volunteers, but all of the participants taking a stand for life. I am so inspired to get out there and stand for life now.  God provided in huge ways during this event.  God is so good.

I would now like to thank every person who backed me during this journey. I am so thankful for all of you who lifted me up in prayer.  Thank you to all who came and participated! I was so happy to see some of your faces that day.

Thanks so much to all of you who gave your support through the $10/10 day campaign to help me raise $350/$1000.  What a blessing.

Well, that’s my story!

Blessings in Abundance,

What’s the Point: A Hope-Filled Joy Life

I am starting a group of posts called What’s the Point?, giving the reason for why I believe what I believe.  You will see these posts interspersed throughout the blog.

After starting this blog recently, I began to ask myself, what’s the purpose of a hope-filled joy life?  Why did I specifically choose that title for my blog?  This question is very important, since it is the basis of this blog.

My hope-filled joy came from my very favorite verse, Romans 15:13.  May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  This verse is so powerful to me.  Because of my faith, I have hope in what is to come.  This hope is not a dream upon a star kind of wish, but faith that God will do what He has promised.  God has never broken any promise throughout all of history.  His faithfulness is what gives me unending hope.  I know that no matter what is going on, God will bring good out of that situation.  Romans 8:28 says that God works out all things for the good of His children.  I hold fast to this truth with hope of what is to come.

But that is not all.  I also have joy because of what Jesus has done for me!  He has shown me unconditional love (that I did not deserve At All.) and has given me the gift of spending eternity with Him.  That alone gives me joy.  Joy is quite different from happiness.  Happiness comes from something that gives us pleasure for a while, like a game, car or person.  Joy is unending because Jesus’ love is unending!  His grace to me is so great, I just can’t help but be joyful!

So there you have it!  My hope-filled joy is based off of my faith in Christ Jesus.  This hope and joy will never fade, it goes on and on.  I hope that you will join me in experiencing His hope-filled joy and much more!

Many blessings,

Another Reason For Joy, Overflowing Hope, Romans 15:13, To brighten your day

Welcome to my blog!

Hi there! My name is Maddie and I want to welcome you to My Hope Filled Joy!  I hope that as you read my blog, you will be entertained, inspired and encouraged.  In the little everyday situations and the big life-changing stories, there is always a reason to have joy.

I should tell you a little about myself.  I am just a teen girl learning to live each day in complete trust and obedience to my Savior, Jesus Christ.  He is so faithful and loving towards me, even though I do not deserve it at all.  I am so in awe of who He is and I want to use every situation to glorify Him.  I am an animal lover and my dog, Molly, is my buddy.  I also love little kiddos; I’m always ready with bubbles or play dough for some good kid fun.  If I could be anywhere, I would be outside enjoying God’s creation.  Hiking, Biking, Walking, Gardening, I love it all.  My favorite chill time is with a book, especially historical fiction.

Well, enough about me, what is the purpose of this blog?

First, the purpose of this blog is to bring glory to God.  He is my everything.  Every aspect of this blog should be honoring to Him.

Second, I will use this blog to share about my favorite ministries. You will become very well acquainted with them soon.

Third, I want to encourage you with the ways God is working in my life and what He is teaching me.

Lastly, I want to brighten your day with the sweet and funny parts of my joyful life.

I hope you will join me on this journey and experience His hope filled joy!
