I Want to Have Faith Like … My Momma

Welcome to a new post series: “I want to have faith like . . .” I’m excited for this one!

I like to say I’m blessed.  This is the post that truly shows how blessed I am. I’m blessed, because I got to be her daughter.

In all my short years of living, I have never met anyone so faith-driven as my mother.  She is a rock, courageous and strong because of the One she trusts in, yet she is gentle, warm and quick to listen.

My Momma was not always this way.  But a long time ago, God took hold of her heart and she said yes.  And He has made her one special woman.

Momma has met some strong adversity in many forms over her life, yet she has never given up.  Some would have quit, thrown in the towel.  But Momma stayed strong, because she trusts in an all-powerful God.  As she would tell you, it isn’t easy.  But it’s worth it.

And now, Momma is impacting the lives of other mothers, children and families. She blesses others by her hard work and never-ending patience.  And she has hope.  Hope like I’ve never seen.  The rough stuff isn’t over yet, but Momma knows God is bringing the good stuff soon.

And yet, with all of this, Momma doesn’t think she has done anything extraordinary.  She believes it’s all because of Jesus.  And it is.  She believes with a child-like faith and He does great things through her.

And she’s not done yet. Oh no, Momma knows great things are still to come.

Momma isn’t perfect.  But she trusts in the One who is perfect, and He is doing some pretty cool things because of it.

What’s the best part about all of this?  I have gotten to watch this woman of God alive and in action all my life.  Now, that’s blessed.

I want to have faith like my momma.  Great things are still to come, y’all!

When God Changes Your Plans

I often find that no matter how much I try to figure out the outcome of a situation, God always has a way of changing my plans.

bud 1

I’m a planner.  I like to figure things out, and choose the best way to approach life.  And yet, life never turns out quite like I expected, but in a good way.  God always reveals just what I need to know, but in His timing and in His ways.

I’m finding that life is much better when I leave it up to the God of the universe. He knows what He’s doing.  All I have to do is trust.

But often we set God aside and try to do life on our own.  We live according to our sticky note to-do list, instead of seeing the incredible life itinerary that God has for us.  We miss out on seeing the gospel in action and changing the lives of others, because we want to follow our own schedule.

I’m done trusting myself to make the plans.  I don’t know what the future holds, but I know Who holds to future.

The song “God is God” by Steven Curtis Chapman speaks so well to my life, and all our lives.  Please enjoy.

“God Is God”

And the pain falls like a curtain
On the things I once called certain
And I have to say the words I fear the most
I just don’t knowAnd the questions without answers
Come and paralyze the dancer
So I stand here on the stage afraid to move
Afraid to fall, oh, but fall I must
On this truth that my life has been formed from the dust[Chorus]
God is God and I am not
I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting
God is God and I am man
So I’ll never understand it all
For only God is GodAnd the sky begins to thunder
And I’m filled with awe and wonder
‘Til the only burning question that remains
Is who am I

Can I form a single mountain
Take the stars in hand and count them
Can I even take a breath without God giving it to me
He is first and last before all that has been
Beyond all that will pass

God is God and I am not
I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting
God is God and I am man
So I’ll never understand it all
For only God is God

Oh, how great are the riches of His wisdom and knowledge
How unsearchable for to Him and through Him and from Him are all things

So let us worship before the throne
Of the One who is worthy of worship alone

God is God and I am not
I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting
God is God and I am man
So I’ll never understand it all
For only God is God

Trust God with your future, my friends.  His plans are so much more that we can imagine.
It’s all for His glory!

What Will YOU Be Known For?

Everyone wants to be known for something.  In a world where anyone can tell the multitudes about their little life through Instagram and Twitter, it’s no wonder that we all want people to know about us.

But is all publicity good publicity?  Are we actually making a difference with the things we post and share?

I have definitely had some trouble lately, when I see the lives of others everywhere. Maybe you can relate.  Sometimes I feel as though my life is not good enough, not making enough difference.  I feel as though I need something to show for myself.  I feel inadequate.

But the question is, what am I trying to prove?

Do I want to be known for having the best stuff, a good voice, lots of friends or a shiny scholarship?  Do I need to prove I’m good enough with all these things?

Now, don’t take me wrong.  By themselves, possessions, friends and good talents are not bad things.  But when I start to use them to make myself look good, that’s when the problems start.

You see, if I compare myself to others by what I have or what I can do, I’ll never be good enough.  Someone will always be better.

And in the end, none of it matters.  When my life is over, and I stand in light of eternity, everything will seem petty and worthless. (Maddie, don’t tell me I need to think about eternity).  Sorry, but you do.

I want to be known for something.  But not simply for being an award-winning actress, a clever scientist, or a good friend.  I want to be known for making a difference into eternity.  I want to make an impact that will ripple effect through generations.  And the good thing is, that’s just what God has in mind for us.  We can change the world (that will matter in eternity), but only though Him.  That’s why He’s such a good Father.

So, what do you want to be known for?  Let me tell you, if it’s for anything apart from God, it will fade away pretty quickly after you’re gone.  You might get a sentence in the history books.  Or you might change people for generations.

You get to decide.  But make a decision.  Be known for something.

When You Fall Off the Face of the Earth…

cliff 1

… You eventually get back up again and start posting truths about your small life.

Hello again Friends (the very few of you that there are 🙂 ),

I’m back again, although I don’t know for how long.  Bear with me, as I learn to handle life itself, and still manage to post about it.

These past couple of months have been rough. Sorry, no details here.  But, God in all His compassion has picked me back up, and I’m ready to try again.  Join me, will you?  This journey is tough, but I’m it in for the long haul.

Putting Hope in Him

We wait in hope for the Lord;

He is our help and our shield.

In Him our hearts rejoice,

for we trust in His holy Name.

May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,

even as we put our hope in you.

Bountiful Blessings ~ #2

Life lately has been fairly odd.  Although I have just finished school, leaving me more free time, we are very, very busy.  Why you might say?  Sometimes the littlest things make us busy, but I’d say we have some big things going on.  My Dad is running for Superior Court Judge!  See his website here!

Anyway, I suppose I should get on to the purpose of this post, God’s abundant blessings.  Let’s get started.

~Driver’s ED. (Although this is only my second day, I am thankful to have kind, competent people to educate me on driving.  I am still not sure whether to be excited or scared yet. 🙂 )

~Brownies! (check out Ravishing Recipes: Baker’s One Bowl Brownies! Yep, I still love these brownies and made them for the last day of co-op.  Everybody says they are SO good, but here’s a hint, they’re super easy!)

~Baby Birds. (My momma’s hanging flower pot is now home to five baby birdies.  Their protective momma has been quite watchful whenever we water the pot. 🙂 )

~Painful Experiences. (We have some tough situations in our family’s life right now, some stuff that’s been going on for a long time and it’s impossible for us to change it.  Although I don’t like the pain, I know that these are the times when God grows us most.  I’m challenged every day to trust and obey more than every before.)

~People Who Know What They’re Doing. (i.e. a certain web designer who has been helping with my dad’s campaign website, teachers who listen to all my questions, and a momma who knows how to make every day seem special)

~Bro Bro. (He is the adorable little brother of my sweet girls that I babysit.  Read about them here. I got to babysit just him last week.  My goodness, he is the cutest thing!)

~God’s Provision.  (I have no idea how much I am blessed.  Every day, I am overwhelmed by the abundance of everything God provides.  I don’t deserve it.)

God is good, friend.  He provides and provides and provides.  Sometimes He says yes and sometimes it’s a no.  But no matter what we need, He always provides.

How Do You Live?

Recently, I wrote a letter very similar to this to a dear friend.  Although I originally planned to have the letter be something unique to her, it contained such a important concept that I wanted to share it here.  Please read, and share.

Dear Friend,

Live with an Eternal Purpose.

(gasp!) No, it really is not that mind-blowing, but it is something that I think is grossly underestimated.  Although I am not a perfect example (not even a very good example) of living with an eternal purpose, it is something that God has put on my heart both for my life and for others.

So what does living with an eternal purpose look like?  How do we model it in everyday life? I firmly believe that it is simply another way to say, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and His Purpose.  We live in the moment, only seeing what’s right in front of us.  This is why the silliest arguments and the littlest mistakes make a huge impact.  But when we look at our own lives and the current situation through Jesus’ eyes, we see the importance of it all.  Relationships are richer, experiences are more memorable, mistakes become less important and Jesus becomes fixed in the center when we see life through His eyes.  He uses every situation to grow your trust in Him, and to make His glory known.

Often times, we miss it.  We miss the opportunity to see His majesty, to love well and live abundantly.  Don’t miss it.  I have wasted so much time missing out on God’s heavenly purpose.  I know from personal experience that the things that are the most important in the moment are nothing in comparison to the glorious call of Jesus.  Whether you are having the best or the worst day, see life how God sees it. Don’t miss it.

On that day, when we stand in the presence of God, all the things of this world will fall away, and we will be satisfied in Him.

Live with an Eternal Purpose, it’ll change your life.
