Bountiful Blessings ~ #2

Life lately has been fairly odd.  Although I have just finished school, leaving me more free time, we are very, very busy.  Why you might say?  Sometimes the littlest things make us busy, but I’d say we have some big things going on.  My Dad is running for Superior Court Judge!  See his website here!

Anyway, I suppose I should get on to the purpose of this post, God’s abundant blessings.  Let’s get started.

~Driver’s ED. (Although this is only my second day, I am thankful to have kind, competent people to educate me on driving.  I am still not sure whether to be excited or scared yet. 🙂 )

~Brownies! (check out Ravishing Recipes: Baker’s One Bowl Brownies! Yep, I still love these brownies and made them for the last day of co-op.  Everybody says they are SO good, but here’s a hint, they’re super easy!)

~Baby Birds. (My momma’s hanging flower pot is now home to five baby birdies.  Their protective momma has been quite watchful whenever we water the pot. 🙂 )

~Painful Experiences. (We have some tough situations in our family’s life right now, some stuff that’s been going on for a long time and it’s impossible for us to change it.  Although I don’t like the pain, I know that these are the times when God grows us most.  I’m challenged every day to trust and obey more than every before.)

~People Who Know What They’re Doing. (i.e. a certain web designer who has been helping with my dad’s campaign website, teachers who listen to all my questions, and a momma who knows how to make every day seem special)

~Bro Bro. (He is the adorable little brother of my sweet girls that I babysit.  Read about them here. I got to babysit just him last week.  My goodness, he is the cutest thing!)

~God’s Provision.  (I have no idea how much I am blessed.  Every day, I am overwhelmed by the abundance of everything God provides.  I don’t deserve it.)

God is good, friend.  He provides and provides and provides.  Sometimes He says yes and sometimes it’s a no.  But no matter what we need, He always provides.

Blessings,

Maddie

The Call of Freedom

I wrote this short, unedited paragraph for a writing assignment this week.  We took a short nature walk and were asked to write about what we saw with a unique perspective. As you read, try to guess my inspiration for the story.  The answer is at the bottom.  I hope this little story touches your heart, as it did mine.

Freedom.

It spoke to me.  At first, it spoke gently with the lightest whisper.  Quickly it grew, calling me to come out.  Soon, it grew undeniably loud, penetrating my inner being. Freedom was coming.  For my entire existence, darkness enveloped me.  No matter how hard I tried to escape, darkness held me back.  I was stuck in the muck, in my loneliness, my despair, my emptiness.  There was no one, nothing that could change me, nothing that could break me free.  Then it came.  When hope seemed just out of grasp, it called me.  Freedom.  I was scared, unsure that my present darkness could be overcome by light.  But freedom broke through, shattering my unbreakable chains and bringing me into life.  Now, I live life abundantly.  I leave behind the darkness of my past, and reach forward in hope of the future.  My days are filled with glorious wonder.  Unstoppable, I fly through the air, taking every opportunity as if it is my last. At last, I am satisfied. Nothing can stop me now.

I am free.

Spring is Coming

Crocus

Spring is Coming.

From where you are, this may have been evident for whole weeks.  But from where I live, the sun is just beginning to peak through the clouds and shine its radiance on our beautiful land.  The plum trees, bare from the hardships of winter, are bursting forth with thousands of tiny, tender, precious pink blooms.  The daffodils, once buried in the ground, have shot up in a brilliance of yellow and white. The camilla bush, once believed to be useless, fruitless, flowerless, now erupts in dozens of bright blooms. The crocus’, normally hidden by the cold, are found in the out-of-the-way places, in all their humble glory.  This is the spring I see.

The blooms of the trees and plants are growing, from small tender shoots, to blossoms of the richest perfume.  The grass, now freshly cut from the bitter treatment of winter, now smell tenderly clean.  Wood-burning fires, consuming the rubble to bring a host of color echoes its smokey fragrances through the nearby land.  This is the spring I smell.

As the sun warms and lights us gloriously, the birds rise to wake us with their unending joy.  They sing out of sheer satisfaction.  Other critters, squirrels and the lie, scurry restlessly, awaiting the bounty of summer.  This is the spring I hear.

I see, smell and hear it all around me, the call of spring.  This is a call of joy, a call of hope, a call of life.

Miracles are happening everywhere.  Growth and changes are enveloping us.  The wonders of spring are captivating us.

This is the call of spring.  This is the call of Jesus.

A call to Life.

Spring is Coming.

Blessings,

Maddie

Bountiful Blessings ~ #1

I am surprised some days by how much I am blessed.  I am not just blessed with big, huge things, but so thankful for the little things that make my day. Here are a few things I am blessed by today:

~A New Dishwasher.  Now to some, this may not seem all that exciting, but I am so happy to have a dishwasher in our house again.  Our ten-year-old dishwasher broke over two weeks ago.  For an eight-person family, having no dishwasher for two weeks is kind of hard.  Happily though, my siblings used the extra dishwashing time for family bonding.  We turned up the Veggietales Spotify, made a lot of hot, soapy water, and set out to sing and clean our hearts out.  Although the extra time together was a great experience, I’m glad to have a new dishwasher in our home.

~Sunshine!  Living in the Pacific Northwest, sunshine is fairly occasional in March.  For me, 60 degrees and sunny is blissful.  The day seems so much happier when the sun is shining.

This is Mt. Rainier. I get to see it every morning! Isn't it beautiful?

~Braces!  Yes, as of yesterday, I have braces.  Although it will be 30 months and several appliances in the making, I will have straight teeth.  I am very thankful to have the resources and time to get braces.

~Ice Cream! Which is very helpful for said braces. 🙂

~Family. My siblings make me laugh every day.  I just love family.  See my post about siblings here.

This is family y'all!

~My puppy Molly.  She is the sweetest thing. See my post about her here.

Just about the cutest thing I know.

~God’s goodness.  He mercy is amazing.  I am so thankful to know He is near, and to have the blessings He provides.

Go enjoy God’s blessings to you, my friend!

Blessings,

Maddie

All About Molly

Just in case you need a little cuteness…

My little puppy Molly
My little puppy Molly

This is my puppy Molly.  From the outside, she may look small and even scraggly, but she is the sweetest dog I have ever known.  On the day of my fifth birthday party, this little one came to our backdoor in the pouring rain.  She was tiny and estimated about six months old.  I instantly loved her. She was never claimed by anyone, so this little girl became my buddy.

Molly is the sweetest thing.  She loves being around her family, warm blankets/fireplaces and people food.  She knows when I am upset and comes to comfort me.  She wags her tail often, because she is almost always happy. She moves very fast for being such a little thing.  She loves everyone she meets, and everyone loves her.  I never could have imagined having such a wonderful little friend.  She is so little, but so sweet.

I love my molly.  No matter what’s happening, she brings new joy in my life.  Her happy little tail wag makes me happy.  It is partially because of Molly that I fell in love with animals.  The love I had for her inspired me to love and care for other animals.

Really, how can you resist this face?
